Porbandar sits roughly midway along the coastal route between Dwarka and Somnath, which makes it a natural break on the drive. Kirti Mandir, the memorial at Gandhi's birthplace, is the main reason most itineraries stop here.

Porbandar is about 100 km from Dwarka and around 130 km from Somnath, so it fits neatly into the transfer between the two rather than needing a dedicated trip. It has its own railway station and a small airport.
