Kufri is the standard half-day trip from Shimla. It sits higher than the town and holds snow later into the season, which makes it the usual stop for visitors hoping to see snow without a long drive.
Getting around
Kufri is roughly 16 km from Shimla on the Hindustan–Tibet road, usually 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. In peak season, vehicles are often stopped short of the main point and the last stretch is covered on foot, on horseback, or by local operator vehicles.
Good to know
Horse rides and the last-mile stretch are handled by local unions with fixed points and their own rates. These are typically arranged and paid for on the spot rather than included in a package.
