Route: Dabolim or Mopa airport - North Goa - Old Goa and Panaji - South Goa - airport

Places covered: North Goa, Fort Aguada, Panaji, Old Goa, Fontainhas, South Goa, Colva

This is our most balanced Goa plan. It splits your stay between the two coasts, adds a proper heritage day and keeps a free day for the beach. It is the plan we usually recommend to first-time visitors, because it shows the range of the state without turning the week into a checklist.

Who it suits

Couples and families who want more than a single beach, and who are comfortable with one hotel change. It is a good fit for adults travelling with children above six, for honeymooners who want a bit of sightseeing and for friends who want both a social base and a quiet finish.

How the days flow

You begin with three nights in North Goa, close to the Candolim and Calangute beaches, with a Fort Aguada sunset on the first full day. The middle day is for Old Goa and Panaji: the Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral in the morning, Fontainhas for lunch and a walk, and a Mandovi river cruise if you like. You then move to South Goa for two nights of calmer beaches, with an optional Dudhsagar day.

Why the split works

North Goa gives you energy, food and choice. South Goa gives you space and quiet. Splitting also reduces long cab rides, because you cover Old Goa on the way between coasts.

What a day feels like

On a heritage day, you start around 8.30 am, with the Basilica and Se Cathedral while the air is cool. By late morning you are in Panaji, walking through Fontainhas and having a long Goan lunch. After a rest, the evening is yours: a cruise, a beach sunset or an early night. On beach days, there is no schedule at all. That rhythm is intentional, and it keeps the trip from becoming a tour.

Things to know

  • The hotel change takes about an hour by road. We schedule it for the middle of the day.
  • Beach shacks and water sports operate from about October to May; in the monsoon the plan shifts to heritage, spice farms and spa time.
  • Dudhsagar is a long day with a bumpy jeep ride; it is optional and depends on the season and booking system.
  • Water sports, entry tickets and cruise fees are paid separately unless added to the quote.

Customising

Common changes include shifting to a single base, adding a night, swapping the south for Palolem or upgrading hotels. Tell us what you want and we will price it.

Helpful answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I stay in North Goa or South Goa?

Choose North Goa for nightlife, water sports, shopping and a lively beach scene, with Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator as the hubs. Choose South Goa for quieter beaches, longer stretches of sand, resorts and a slower pace, with Palolem, Agonda and Colva as the usual bases. Families and couples often prefer the south; friends groups often prefer the north.

Which airport should I fly into for Goa?

Goa has two. Manohar International Airport at Mopa (GOX) is in the far north and is convenient for North Goa. Dabolim (GOI) is closer to South Goa and Panaji. Several airlines now operate from Mopa, so always check the airport code on your ticket, and note that the two are around two hours apart by road.

Is it worth going to Goa in the monsoon?

It can be, if you want greenery, waterfalls, quiet roads and lower hotel rates, and do not need beach activities. Most beach shacks are dismantled, water sports and sea swimming are restricted, and heavy rain can interrupt plans. Choose a hotel with a pool, add Ayurveda or heritage days, and keep your expectations realistic.

Is Goa good for vegetarians?

Yes. Goa is famous for seafood and pork, but vegetarian options are widely available, from bhaji-pao and veg thalis to restaurants that serve vegetarian Goan, Indian and continental food. Mention your preference when you order, and ask about fish stock or coconut-based gravies if you are strict.
