Route: Dehradun - Mussoorie - Rishikesh - Nainital - Kathgodam

Places covered: Mussoorie, Landour, Rishikesh, Triveni Ghat, Nainital, Naini Lake, Bhimtal

This plan is built for couples who want mountains, a river and a lake in one trip. It uses three bases with two nights each, gives you time to unwind and chooses hotels with a view or a bit of privacy. It includes one long drive, and we say so up front.

Who it suits

Honeymooners and couples celebrating an anniversary, who enjoy scenery, quiet evenings and gentle activities. It works best from March to June and September to November. In winter, Mussoorie and Nainital are cold, and snowfall is possible but cannot be promised. In the monsoon, we do not recommend it.

How the days flow

You land in Dehradun and drive about two hours to Mussoorie, settling in for two nights. On day two, you visit Landour, enjoy pancakes at Char Dukan and walk to Lal Tibba for the view. Day three takes you down to Rishikesh for the Ganga aarti and two nights by the river. On day four, you can enjoy a yoga session or a quiet day, with rafting in season. On day five, you drive to Nainital, a long journey of about seven hours, with a lunch stop near Corbett. Day six is for Naini Lake, boating and a drive to Bhimtal. Day seven is departure.

What makes it romantic

  • A Mussoorie stay away from the crowded stretch, with a mountain view.
  • Evening on the Ganga, with lamps floating on the water.
  • Landour's quiet lanes and old cafes.
  • A boat ride on Naini Lake at dawn or dusk.
  • A bonfire, candlelit dinner or flowers in the room on request.

The honest part

  • The drive from Rishikesh to Nainital is long, at around seven hours. We break it, and start early. If you prefer, we can shorten the plan and drop one base.
  • Mussoorie and Nainital are busy on weekends and holidays. We try to place your stays midweek.
  • Rafting is seasonal and weather-dependent.
  • Some pilgrimage areas of Rishikesh do not serve alcohol or non-vegetarian food.
  • Hill hotels vary in standard. We choose properties carefully and share photos in advance.

A word on pace

Couples often tell us they wish they had done less. Two nights in each place is the minimum for a honeymoon, and we would rather you spend a slow afternoon on a balcony than rush to a sixth viewpoint.

Customising

Replace Rishikesh with Corbett, add a night at Bhimtal, upgrade to a heritage hotel or add a photographer. Tell us your dates and the mood you want, and we will adapt the plan.

Helpful answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Uttarakhand good for a honeymoon?

It suits couples who like hills, lakes and forests rather than beaches. Mussoorie, Nainital and a riverside stay in Rishikesh make a calm, scenic trip. Weekends and holidays are crowded, so we recommend midweek stays and quieter hotels outside the main bazaars.

Where can I see snow in Uttarakhand?

Snowfall is most reliable from December to February at Auli, Chopta, Dhanaulti and the higher parts of Mussoorie and Nainital, but it depends on the year. Roads can be icy or closed. If snow matters, travel in January or early February and keep your plan flexible.

How far is Uttarakhand from Delhi?

Haridwar and Rishikesh are about five to six hours from Delhi by road, Mussoorie about six to seven, and Nainital and Corbett about five to seven. A newer Delhi to Dehradun expressway has been shortening some drives, so check current road status. Trains and flights to Dehradun and Pantnagar are alternatives.

Is it safe to visit Uttarakhand in the monsoon?

It can be done, but it carries real risk. Heavy rain in July and August causes landslides and road closures, especially on the routes to Kedarnath, Badrinath and the Kumaon hills. If you must travel then, choose lower destinations such as Rishikesh and Dehradun, keep dates flexible and follow weather and district alerts.
