Route: Chandigarh - Manali - Chandigarh

Places covered: Chandigarh, Manali, Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel, Hadimba Temple, Naggar

This plan stays in one place so that the trip feels like a holiday, not a road journey. You travel to Manali, settle into a cottage or boutique hotel and spend four nights exploring at an easy pace. It is designed for couples who want mountains, privacy and a few memorable outings.

Who it suits

Honeymooners and couples on a short break. It works from March to June and September to November, and especially well in winter if you want snow. In July and August, we shorten or adjust the plan, because of rain and landslide risk on the Chandigarh to Manali highway.

How the days flow

Day one is the drive from Chandigarh to Manali, about eight to nine hours, with a stop for lunch. Day two takes you to Solang Valley, for snow in winter or meadows and activities in summer. Day three is the Atal Tunnel and Sissu, or Rohtang if open and permitted, followed by the Hadimba Temple in the evening. Day four is a free day for Naggar, Old Manali, a spa or simply staying in. Day five is the drive back.

What makes it romantic

  • A cottage or hotel with a view, away from the busiest bazaar.
  • A private car, so you can stop where you like.
  • Time for each other. Only one outing a day, with free afternoons.
  • Optional extras, such as a bonfire, a candlelit dinner, room decoration or a couple's photoshoot.
  • Seasonal highlights. Snow in winter, blossom in spring, golden light in autumn.

Honest notes

The drive to Manali is long and winding, and some people feel unwell, so we recommend tablets and a front seat. In winter, roads can be icy. Adventure activities are optional, and we only suggest registered operators. We keep a buffer day when the weather is uncertain.

When a different plan might suit you better

If you want more than one destination, the Shimla Manali tour adds colonial charm. If you dislike long drives, consider the Dalhousie and Dharamshala plan, where drives are shorter. If you are travelling in July or August, we would suggest postponing, or choosing a different region. And if you want adventure, ask us to add paragliding, rafting or a trek.

Customising

Add a night in Shimla or Naggar, extend to Dharamshala, upgrade to a luxury resort or include paragliding. Tell us your dates and the mood you want, and we will adapt the plan.

Helpful answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Himachal good for a honeymoon?

Yes. Manali and Shimla are classic honeymoon bases, with cottages, snow in winter and easy sightseeing. Dalhousie and Khajjiar offer quieter stays in deodar forest. Choose a hotel away from the busiest bazaar, ask about heating and plan one or two outings rather than a packed schedule.

Where and when can I see snow in Himachal?

Snow usually falls from December to February in Kufri, Narkanda, Solang Valley, Dalhousie and the high villages. Rohtang Pass and Spiti are under deep snow in winter and closed to normal tourist traffic. Snowfall varies from year to year and is never guaranteed on a given date, so keep a buffer day for weather.

Do I need a permit for Rohtang Pass?

Vehicles going to Rohtang Pass need a permit booked on the official Himachal Pradesh portal, with a daily cap and a weekly closure on Tuesdays. The pass is open only from about mid-May to November, depending on snow. The Atal Tunnel route to Lahaul is separate, and we confirm current rules before including Rohtang in any plan.

Are adventure activities in Manali safe?

They can be, with reputable operators. Paragliding, river rafting and skiing involve real risks, so choose registered companies with trained instructors, proper equipment and insurance, and follow weather-related cancellations. Avoid unregistered operators and anyone who dismisses safety briefings.
