Route: Jaipur - Udaipur
Places covered: Jaipur, Amer Fort, City Palace, Udaipur, Lake Pichola, Ranakpur
This is our reference plan for couples. It uses two bases, Jaipur and Udaipur, and gives each enough time to feel like a place, not a stopover. You see the main sights of Jaipur in two days and then move on to the lakes of Udaipur, where the pace slows and the setting does the work.
Who it suits
Honeymooners, anniversary trips and couples who want a mix of sightseeing and romance. It works from October to March, and in the monsoon for Udaipur's green hills and fuller lakes. In May and June, the heat in Jaipur makes sightseeing hard, so we suggest early starts or choosing a different month.
How the days flow
Day one is arrival in Jaipur with an easy evening. Day two is sightseeing: Amer Fort in the morning and the City Palace and Hawa Mahal in the afternoon. Day three is the transfer to Udaipur. We usually recommend a flight or an express train for this leg, which saves most of a day, but a scenic drive with stops is also possible. Days four and five are in Udaipur: the City Palace, a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola, a haveli lunch, a cooking class or a day trip to Kumbhalgarh and Ranakpur.
What makes it romantic
- A heritage haveli or palace night in Udaipur.
- A private sunset boat on Lake Pichola.
- A rooftop dinner with a view of the City Palace.
- Time to wander through the lanes and bazaars.
- Optional extras: a spa session, a candlelit dinner or a photo shoot.
Honest notes
The Jaipur to Udaipur road is about 400 km and takes six to seven hours. Flights and trains save time, but need to be booked early. Heritage hotels have varied room categories, and we explain which room you are booking. Evening temperatures in winter can be cool, so pack layers.
What a typical day feels like
A typical day starts with a relaxed breakfast, then a morning of sightseeing in the cooler hours, followed by a long lunch and a rest. In the late afternoon you head out again for the sunset boat ride or a stroll through the bazaar. The aim is to leave you feeling refreshed and not tired, which matters on a honeymoon more than the number of sights ticked off.
Customising
Add a night, upgrade your hotel, include a desert camp in Jaisalmer or Jodhpur, or extend to Delhi and Agra. Tell us your dates and the mood you want.
