Route: Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram airport - Ayurveda resort - airport

Places covered: Kumarakom or Kovalam, Ayurveda resort

This is a single-base plan for people who want to rest, not tour. You stay at a residential Ayurveda resort for a week, with a daily rhythm of treatments, meals, yoga and quiet. It is the most traditional way to experience Ayurveda in Kerala, and the one we recommend for those who want more than a spa day.

Who it suits

Adults who want to relax, recover from stress or try Ayurveda seriously. It is not a medical programme, and it does not replace treatment for illness. It suits couples, solo travellers and friends. It is less suited to children, people who want to sightsee or travellers with serious medical conditions without a doctor's advice.

What a week looks like

On arrival, you meet the physician for a consultation about your health, diet and goals. The doctor prescribes a plan, which usually includes daily oil massages, herbal steam and other therapies, depending on your constitution. Meals are simple, often vegetarian, and prepared to support the treatment. Mornings may start with yoga, afternoons are for rest, and evenings are quiet. At the end of the stay, the physician reviews your progress and advises on how to continue at home.

Where to stay

Ayurveda resorts are found in Kumarakom, near Kovalam, Varkala and across Kerala. Kumarakom is calm and lakeside, suited to those who want greenery and water. The Kovalam and Varkala areas combine treatment with beach access. We choose properties with a qualified physician, trained therapists, clear programmes and hygiene standards.

When to go

June to September is the traditional season, with cool, damp weather considered ideal for treatments, and lower prices. October to March is also popular, with drier weather. Avoid planning other activities in the monsoon, because the programme is the focus.

Honest expectations

Treatments can feel unfamiliar, and some people find the oils and diet an adjustment. Tell the doctor about allergies, medicines and medical conditions before you begin. Do not expect dramatic changes in a week; the benefits are gradual. Switch off your phone as much as you can, and let the routine do its work.

What is included

The package covers accommodation, meals, the consultation and a daily treatment programme as described in the quote, with airport transfers. Extras such as extra therapies, yoga classes or excursions can be added.

Customising

Lengthen the stay to 10 or 14 nights, add a night in Fort Kochi or Munnar before or after, or choose a different region. Tell us your goals and dates and we will suggest a centre.

Helpful answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an Ayurveda stay in Kerala worth it?

It can be a restful experience if you pick a reputable centre. Look for a resort with a qualified physician who does a consultation before prescribing massages or treatments. A week gives a meaningful rhythm, though short sessions are also available. Treat it as wellness and relaxation, not medical treatment, and tell the doctor about any health conditions.

Is it worth visiting Kerala in the monsoon?

Yes, for the right trip. Heavy rain brings green hills, waterfalls and the traditional Ayurveda season, with lower hotel rates. But landslides can close hill roads, beaches may be unsafe for swimming, and some activities are cancelled. Choose resort-based stays, keep your plans flexible and check district advisories before travelling to Munnar or Wayanad.

Is Kerala good for vegetarians and seafood lovers?

Both do well. Kerala is famous for fish curry, prawn roast and karimeen pollichathu, and also has a rich vegetarian tradition, including sadya on banana leaf, avial, thoran and appam with vegetable stew. Houseboat cooks can prepare vegetarian or Jain meals if told in advance.
